Artist and researcher Yasmeen Fathima Thantrey’s work explores identity, the body, and diaspora, aiming to navigate these complex themes through an intersectional lens. Drawing upon critical race and feminist theories, she situates her lived experiences within a broader social context, inviting viewers to engage in a dialogue that transcends cultural boundaries.

I am a firm believer in lived experience as research, which has been the driving force throughout my artistic practice. My motivations have been heavily influenced by a desire to understand the complexities of self and navigate tensions I felt throughout childhood, adolescence and even today. Collaboration and knowledge exchange have become foundational to my process. I find the conversations, community and continuous learning that have come with being an artist the most enriching and equally as valuable to my practice.

My PhD, British South Asian Endometriosis Experiences and Psycho-social Wellbeing: A Participatory and Arts-based Mixed-methods Study will start in September 2024 and is part of BCU 2024 Vice Chancellor's Inaugural PhD Studentship Scheme
